1 Timothy 3:12

Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

1. “Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife…”

a. [Let the] deacons [Strong: 1249 diákonos, dee-ak'-on-os; probably from an obsolete διάκω diákō (to run on errands; compare G1377); an attendant, i.e. (genitive case) a waiter (at table or in other menial duties); specially, a Christian teacher and pastor (technically, a deacon or deaconess):—deacon, minister, servant.]

b. be [Strong: 2077 éstō, es'-to; second person singular present imperative of G1510; be thou; also ἔστωσαν éstōsan es'-to-san, third person of the same; let them be:—be.]

c. [the] husbands [Strong: 435 anḗr, an'-ayr; a primary word (compare G444); a man (properly as an individual male):—fellow, husband, man, sir.]

d. [of] one [Strong: 3391 mía, mee'-ah; irregular feminine of G1520; one or first:—a (certain), + agree, first, one, × other.]

e. wife [Strong: 1135 gynḗ, goo-nay'; probably from the base of G1096; a woman; specially, a wife:—wife, woman.]

2.  “...ruling their children and their own houses well.”

a. ruling [Strong: 4291 proḯstēmi, pro-is'-tay-mee; from G4253 and G2476; to stand before, i.e. (in rank) to preside, or (by implication) to practise:—maintain, be over, rule.]

b. [their] children [Strong: 5043  téknon, tek'-non; from the base of G5098; a child (as produced):—child, daughter, son.]

c. and [Strong: 2532 kaí, kahee; apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:—and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

d. [their] own [Strong: 2398  ídios, id'-ee-os; of uncertain affinity; pertaining to self, i.e. one's own; by implication, private or separate:—X his acquaintance, when they were alone, apart, aside, due, his (own, proper, several), home, (her, our, thine, your) own (business), private(-ly), proper, severally, their (own).]

e. houses [Strong: 3624  oîkos, oy'-kos; of uncertain affinity; a dwelling (more or less extensive, literal or figurative); by implication, a family (more or less related, literally or figuratively):—home, house(-hold), temple.]

  

g. well [Strong: 2573 kalōs, kal-oce'; adverb from G2570; well (usually morally):—(in a) good (place), honestly, + recover, (full) well.]
