Hebrews 4:9

Hebrews 4:9

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

a. ASV: There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God.

b. YLT: There doth remain, then, a sabbatic rest to the people of God,
d. Amplified Bible Classic: So then, there is still awaiting a full and complete Sabbath-rest reserved for the [true] people of God;
1. “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.”

a. [There] remaineth [Strong: 620 apoleípō, ap-ol-ipe'-o; from G575 and G3007; to leave behind (passively, remain); by implication, to forsake:—leave, remain.]
b. therefore [Strong: 686 ára, ar'-ah; probably from G142 (through the idea of drawing a conclusion); a particle denoting an inference more or less decisive (as follows):—haply, (what) manner (of man), no doubt, perhaps, so be, then, therefore, truly, wherefore. Often used in connection with other particles, especially G1065 or G3767 (after) or G1487(before).]
c. [a] rest [Strong: 4520 sabbatismós, sab-bat-is-mos'; from a derivative of G4521; a "sabbatism", i.e. (figuratively) the repose of Christianity (as a type of heaven):—rest.]
d. [to] the [Strong: 3588 ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.]
e. people [Strong: 2992 laós, lah-os'; apparently a primary word; a people (in general; thus differing from G1218, which denotes one's own populace):—people.]

g. [of] God [Strong: 2316  theós, theh'-os; of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with G3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:—X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).]
