Hebrews 5:9

Hebrews 5:9

And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

a. ASV: And having been made perfect, he became unto all them that obey him the author of eternal salvation;

b. YLT: And having been made perfect, he did become to all those obeying him a cause of salvation age-during,
d. Amplified Bible Classic: And, [His completed experience] making Him perfectly [equipped], He became the Author and Source of eternal salvation to all those who give heed and obey Him,
1. “And being made perfect…”

a. And  [Strong: kaí, kahee; apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:—and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]
b. [being made] perfect [Strong: 5048  teleióō, tel-i-o'-o; from G5046; to complete, i.e. (literally) accomplish, or (figuratively) consummate (in character):—consecrate, finish, fulfil, make) perfect.]
2. “...he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;”

a. [he] became [Strong: 1096 gínomai, ghin'-om-ahee; a prolongation and middle voice form of a primary verb; to cause to be ("gen"-erate), i.e. (reflexively) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (literal, figurative, intensive, etc.):—arise, be assembled, be(-come, -fall, -have self), be brought (to pass), (be) come (to pass), continue, be divided, draw, be ended, fall, be finished, follow, be found, be fulfilled, + God forbid, grow, happen, have, be kept, be made, be married, be ordained to be, partake, pass, be performed, be published, require, seem, be showed, × soon as it was, sound, be taken, be turned, use, wax, will, would, be wrought.]
b. [the] author [Strong: 159 aítios, ah'-ee-tee-os; from the same as G154; causative, i.e. (concretely) a causer:—author.]
c. [of] eternal [Strong: 166 aiṓnios, ahee-o'-nee-os; from G165; perpetual (also used of past time, or past and future as well):—eternal, for ever, everlasting, world (began).]
d. salvation [Strong: 4991 sōtēría, so-tay-ree'-ah; feminine of a derivative of  G4990 as (properly, abstract) noun; rescue or safety (physically or morally):—deliver, health, salvation, save, saving.]
e. [unto] all [Strong: 3956 pâs, pas; including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole:—all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), × daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.]

g. [them that] obey [Strong: 5219 hypakoúō, hoop-ak-oo'-o; from G5259 and G191; to hear under (as a subordinate), i.e. to listen attentively; by implication, to heed or conform to a command or authority:—hearken, be obedient to, obey.]
h. him [Strong: 846 autós, ow-tos'; from the particle αὖ aû (perhaps akin to the base of G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:—her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which.]
1). Hebrews 5:1-6 are all introductory to Hebrews 5:7-9.

a).  Mark Bowling: “Now onto what you said about Jesus being perfected through sufferings. Jesus was perfect. He never sinned once. So that passage always stuck out to me. But in the context of the book of Hebrews, it's referring to Jesus being perfected as our High Priest. He could not be a perfect High Priest unless He could relate to our struggles, temptations, weaknesses, etc. Once He experienced all of that without sinning, He could be a perfect High Priest. Wonderful what He has done for us!”
