Hebrews 9:11

Hebrews 9:11

But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

a. ASV: But Christ having come a high priest of the good things to come, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation,

b. YLT: And Christ being come, chief priest of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands -- that is, not of this creation --

c. Amplified Classic: But [that appointed time came] when Christ (the Messiah) appeared as a High Priest of the better things that have come and are to come. [Then] through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with [human] hands, that is, not a part of this material creation,

1. “But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come…”

d. [an] high priest [Strong: 749 archiereús, ar-khee-er-yuce'; from G746 and G2409; the high-priest (literally, of the Jews, typically, Christ); by extension a chief priest:—chief (high) priest, chief of the priests.]
e. [of] good [things] [Strong: 18 agathós, ag-ath-os'; a primary word; "good" (in any sense, often as noun):—benefit, good(-s, things), well.]
  
f. [to] come [Strong: 3195  méllō, mel'-lo; a strengthened form of G3199 (through the idea of expectation); to intend, i.e. be about to be, do, or suffer something (of persons or things, especially events; in the sense of purpose, duty, necessity, probability, possibility, or hesitation):—about, after that, be (almost), (that which is, things, +which was for) to come, intend, was to (be), mean, mind, be at the point, (be) ready, + return, shall (begin), (which, that) should (after, afterwards, hereafter) tarry, which was for, will, would, be yet.]

1). The good things to come are the better promises of the New Covenant.

2. “...by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands…”

d. [more] perfect [Strong: 5046  téleios, tel'-i-os; from G5056; complete (in various applications of labor, growth, mental and moral character, etc.); neuter (as noun, with G3588) completeness:—of full age, man, perfect.]

e. tabernacle [Strong: 4633 skēnḗ, skay-nay'; apparently akin to G4632 and G4639; a tent or cloth hut (literally or figuratively):—habitation, tabernacle.]
  
f. not [Strong: 3756  ou, oo; a primary word; the absolute negative (compare G3361) adverb; no or not:—+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but.]

g. made with hands [Strong: 5499 cheiropoíētos, khi-rop-oy'-ay-tos; from G5495 and a derivative of G4160; manufactured, i.e. of human construction:—made by (make with) hands.]

3. “...that is to say, not of this building;”

a. that is to say [Strong: 5123 toutésti, toot-es'-tee; contraction for G5124 and G2076; that is:—that is (to say).]
b. not [Strong: ou, oo; a primary word; the absolute negative (compare G3361) adverb; no or not:—+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but.]
c. [of] this [Strong: 5026 taútēi, tow'-tay; dative case, accusative case and genitive case respectively of the feminine singular of G3778; (towards or of) this:—her, + hereof, it, that, +thereby, the (same), this (same).]
d. building [Strong: 2937  ktísis, ktis'-is; from G2936; original formation (properly, the act; by implication, the thing, literally or figuratively):—building, creation, creature, ordinance.]
