1 Timothy 6:8
And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
a. ASV: But having food and covering we shall be therewith content.
b. YLT: But having food and raiment -- with these we shall suffice ourselves;
d. Amplified Bible Classic: But if we have food and clothing, with these we shall be content (satisfied).
1. “And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”
a. And [Strong: 1161 dé, deh; a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:—also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]
b. having [Strong: 2192 échō, ekh'-o; a primary verb; to hold (used in very various applications, literally or figuratively, direct or remote; such as possession; ability, contiuity, relation, or condition):—be (able, × hold, possessed with), accompany, + begin to amend, can(+ -not), × conceive, count, diseased, do + eat, + enjoy, + fear, following, have, hold, keep, + lack, + go to law, lie, + must needs, + of necessity, + need, next, +recover, + reign, + rest, + return, × sick, take for, + tremble, + uncircumcised, use.]
c. food [Strong: 1305 diatrophḗ, dee-at-rof-ay'; from a compound of G1223 and G5142; nourishment:—food.]
d. and [Strong: 2532 kaí, kahee; apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:—and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]
e. raiment [4629 sképasma, skep'-as-mah; from a derivative of σκέπας sképas (a covering; perhaps akin to the base of G4649 through the idea of noticeableness); clothing:—raiment.]
f. [let us be] therewith [Strong: 5125 toútois, too'-toice; dative case plural masculine or neuter of G3778; to (for, in, with or by) these (persons or things):—such, them, there(-in, -with), these, this, those.]
g. content [Strong: 714 arkéō, ar-keh'-o; apparently a primary verb (but probably akin to G142 through the idea of raising a barrier); properly, to ward off, i.e. (by implication) to avail (figuratively, be satisfactory):—be content, be enough, suffice, be sufficient.]
