1 Timothy 5:22

1 Timothy 5:22

Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself
Pure.

a. ASV:  Lay hands hastily on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.

b. YLT: Be laying hands quickly on no one, nor be having fellowship with sins of others; be keeping thyself pure;
d. Amplified Bible Classic: Do not be in a hurry in the laying on of hands [giving the sanction of the church too hastily in reinstating expelled offenders or in ordination in questionable cases], nor share or participate in another man’s sins; keep yourself pure.
1. “Lay hands suddenly on no man…”

a. Lay [Strong: 2007 epitíthēmi, ep-ee-tith'-ay-mee; from G1909 and G5087; to impose (in a friendly or hostile sense):—add unto, lade, lay upon, put (up) on, set on (up), +surname, × wound.]
b. hands [Strong: 5495 cheír, khire; perhaps from the base of G5494 in the sense of its congener the base of G5490 (through the idea of hollowness for grasping); the hand (literally or figuratively (power); especially (by Hebraism) a means or instrument):—hand.]
c. suddenly [Strong: 5030  tachéōs, takh-eh'-oce; adverb from G5036; briefly, i.e. (in time) speedily, or (in manner) rapidly:—hastily, quickly, shortly, soon, suddenly.]
d. [on] no [man] [Strong: 3367 mēdeís, may-dice'; from G3361 and G1520; not even one (man, woman, thing):—any (man, thing), no (man), none, not (at all, any man, a whit), nothing, +without delay.]

1). Laying on of hands is an Old Testament and New Testament doctrine. Under the Old covenant it was used for the transference of sin and imperfections:

a). Exodus 29:10, 15, 19.

2). Transfer of anointing and power and spirit.

a). Deuteronomy 34:9 And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord commanded Moses.

3). Kenneth E. Hagin: The most common practice is laying hands on those are being ordained and separated unto the ministry. Something mighty occurs when men of faith lay hands in the Name of Jesus upon those who, in faith, receive the impartation.

a). Acts 13:2, 3  As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
13:3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
2. “...neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.”

a. neither [Strong: 3366 mēdé, may-deh'; from G3361 and G1161; but not, not even; in a continued negation, nor:—neither, nor (yet), (no) not (once, so much as).]
b. [be] partaker [Strong: 2841 koinōnéō, koy-no-neh'-o; from G2844; to share with others (objectively or subjectively):—communicate, distribute, be partaker.]
c. [of] other [Strong: 245  allótrios, al-lot'-ree-os; from G243; another's, i.e. not one's own; by extension foreign, not akin, hostile:—alien, (an-)other (man's, men's), strange(-r).]
d. [men’s] sins [Strong: 266 hamartía, ham-ar-tee'-ah; from G264; a sin (properly abstract):—offence, sin(-ful).]
e. keep [Strong: 5083 tēréō, tay-reh'-o; from τερός terós (a watch; perhaps akin to G2334); to guard (from loss or injury, properly, by keeping the eye upon; and thus differing from G5442, which is properly to prevent escaping; and from G2892, which implies a fortress or full military lines of apparatus), i.e. to note (a prophecy; figuratively, to fulfil a command); by implication, to detain (in custody; figuratively, to maintain); by extension, to withhold (for personal ends; figuratively, to keep unmarried); by extension, to withhold (for personal ends; figuratively, to keep unmarried):—hold fast, keep(- er), (pre-, re-)serve, watch.]

g. thyself [Strong: 4572 seautoû, seh-ow-too'; genitive case from G4571 and G846, also dative case of the same, σεαυτῷ seautōi seh-ow-to', and accusative case σεαυτόν seautón seh-ow-ton', likewise contracted σαυτοῦ sautoû sow-too', σαυτῷ sautōi sow-to', and σαυτόν sautón sow-ton', respectively; of (with, to) thyself:—thee, thine own self, (thou) thy(-self).]
h. pure [Strong: 53 hagnós, hag-nos'; from the same as G40; properly, clean, i.e. (figuratively) innocent, modest, perfect:—chaste, clean, pure.]
