Hebrews 5:8

Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

a. ASV: Though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered;

1. “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered.”

a. Though [Strong: 2539  kaíper, kah'-ee-per; from G2532 and G4007; and indeed, i.e. nevertheless or notwithstanding:—and yet, although.]

b.  he were [Strong: 5607 ṓn, oan; present participle of G1510; being:—be, come, have.]

c. [a] Son [Strong: 5207 huiós, hwee-os'; apparently a primary word; a "son" (sometimes of animals), used very widely of immediate, remote or figuratively, kinship:—child, foal, son.]

d. [yet] learned [he] [Strong: 3129 manthánō, man-than'-o; prolongation from a primary verb, another form of which, μαθέω mathéō, is used as an alternate in certain tenses; to learn (in any way):—learn, understand.]

e. obedience [Strong: 5218 hypakoḗ, hoop-ak-o-ay'; from G5219; attentive hearkening, i.e. (by implication) compliance or submission:—obedience, (make) obedient, obey(-ing).]

h. [he] suffered [Strong: 3758 páschō, pas'-kho; apparently a primary verb; to experience a sensation or impression (usually painful):—feel, passion, suffer, vex.]

Hebrews 5:1-6 are all introductory to hebrews 5:7-9.

a).  Mark Bowling: “Now onto what you said about Jesus being perfected through sufferings. Jesus was perfect. He never sinned once. So that passage always stuck out to me. But in the context of the book of Hebrews, it's referring to Jesus being perfected as our High Priest. He could not be a perfect High Priest unless He could relate to our struggles, temptations, weaknesses, etc. Once He experienced all of that without sinning, He could be a perfect High Priest. Wonderful what He has done for us!”
