Hebrews 5:6


Hebrews 5:6

As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

1. As he saith also in another place

i. Melchisedek [Strong: 3198  Melchisedék, mel-khis-ed-ek'; of Hebrew origin (H4442); Melchisedek (i.e. Malkitsedek), a patriarch:—Melchisedec.]
  
1). Melchisedek first introduced in Scripture in Genesis 14 when Abraham returning from the slaughter of the Mesopotamian kings paid a tithe to him and received a blessing in return.

a). Genesis 14:18-20 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
14:19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
14:20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

2). David referred to him in Psalms

a). Psalm 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

b). We know now that the LORD was the Father.
