Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

1). How many converts resulted from this encounter we don’t know, but we do know that at least one actual member of the philosophers court on Mars Hill got saved. In the heart and mind of Dionysius the wisdom of the world was made foolish by the gospel, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
a). 1 Corinthians 1:17-20 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

1). Looking at the singular and plural uses in this verse we can say for sure at least 6 people were saved in this encounter, but probably more. What happened to Paul while he was at Athens will throw some light on some verses in Acts 18 and especially some verses Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians. When Paul left Athens he went to Corinth and it was to the Corinthian church that he had some of his harshest words about philosophy, some of which I cited above. Paul preached that our faith must not be in the wisdom of men but in the demonstration of the Spirit.

2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
