Genesis 21:18

Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.

a. NLT: Go to him and comfort him, for I will make a great nation from his descendants.”

c. nation [1471 * gowy] [Strong: apparently from the same root as 1465 (in the sense of massing); a foreign nation; hence, a Gentile; also (figuratively) a troop of animals, or a flight of locusts:--Gentile, heathen, nation, people.]

1). This is the second time of God saying concerning Ishmael that He would make of him a great nation. God had already told Abraham He would make Ishmael a great nation.

a). Genesis 17:20  And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.
