2 Chronicles 33:17

2 Chronicles 33:17

Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the LORD their God only.

a. ASV: Nevertheless the people sacrificed still in the high places, but only unto Jehovah their God.

b. YLT: But still the people are sacrificing in high places, only — to Jehovah their God.

c. Classic Amplified: Yet the people still sacrificed in the high places, but only to the Lord their God.

d. Septuagint: Nevertheless the people still sacrificed on the high places, only to the Lord their God.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/ Writings: However, the people still brought offerings at the high places, albeit to HASHEM their God.

1. “Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places…”

a. Nevertheless [Strong: 61 'abal ab-awl' apparently from 56 through the idea of negation; nay, i.e. truly or yet:--but, indeed, nevertheless, verily.]

b. [the] people [Strong: 5971 `am am from 6004; a people (as a congregated unit); specifically, a tribe (as those of Israel); hence (collectively) troops or attendants; figuratively, a flock:--folk, men, nation, people.]

c. [did] sacrifice [Strong: 2076 zabach zaw-bakh' a primitive root; to slaughter an animal (usually in sacrifice):--kill, offer, (do) sacrifice, slay.]

d. still [Strong: 5750 `owd ode or rod {ode}; from 5749; properly, iteration or continuance; used only adverbially (with or without preposition), again, repeatedly, still, more:--again, X all life long, at all, besides, but, else, further(-more), henceforth, (any) longer, (any) more(-over), X once, since, (be) still, when, (good, the) while (having being), (as, because, whether, while) yet (within).

e.  [in the] high places [Strong: 1116 bamah bam-maw' from an unused root (meaning to be high); an elevation:--height, high place, wave.]

2. “...yet unto the LORD their God only.”

a. [yet unto the] LORD [Strong: 3068 Yhovah yeh-ho-vaw' from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:--Jehovah, the Lord.]

b.  God [Strong: 430 'elohiym el-o-heem' plural of 433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:--angels, X exceeding, God (gods)(-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.]

c. only [Strong: 7535 raq rak the same as 7534 as a noun; properly, leanness, i.e. (figuratively) limitation; only adverbial, merely, or conjunctional, although:--but, even, except, howbeit howsoever, at the least, nevertheless, nothing but, notwithstanding, only, save, so (that), surely, yet (so), in any wise.]

1). Manasseh’s change was 180 degrees. He repented, he reversed and removed the idols he built, he built up his defenses in the city, and he instituted change in Judah.

a). 2 Chronicles 33:14-17 Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah.
33:15 And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the Lord, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the Lord, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city.
33:16 And he repaired the altar of the Lord, and sacrificed thereon peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the Lord God of Israel.
33:17 Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the Lord their God only.

2). Manasseh was definitely bringing forth as John the Baptist preached and the Apostle Paul wrote of fruits of repentance.

a). Matthew 3:7-10 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
3:10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

b). 2 Corinthians 7:10, 11 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
7:11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
