Acts 13:23



Acts 13:23

Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

a. NLT: “And it is one of King David’s descendants, Jesus, who is God’s promised Savior of Israel!

b. NIV: “From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.

c. YLT: 'Of this one's seed God, according to promise, did raise to Israel a Saviour -- Jesus,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: Of this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel a Savior [in the person of Jesus], according to His promise.

e. Worrell Translation: From the seed of this one, God according to promise, brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus.

1. Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

a. Of [Strong: 575 * apo apo' a primary particle; "off," i.e. away (from something near), in various senses (of place, time, or relation; literal or figurative):--(X here-)after, ago, at, because of, before, by (the space of), for(-th), from, in, (out) of, off, (up-)on(-ce), since, with. In composition (as a prefix) it usually denotes separation, departure, cessation, completion, reversal, etc.]

b. this man’s [Strong: 5127 * toutou too'-too genitive case singular masculine or neuter of 3778; of (from or concerning) this (person or thing):--here(-by), him, it, + such manner of, that, thence(-forth), thereabout, this, thus.]

c. seed [Strong: 4690 * sperma sper'-mah from 4687; something sown, i.e. seed (including the male "sperm"); by implication, offspring; specially, a remnant (figuratively, as if kept over for planting):--issue, seed.]

1). God promised David that his seed would be established upon the throne of Israel. Some of this prophecy was speaking of Solomon and some of it was speaking of Christ Jesus.

a). 2 Samuel 7:12, 13And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
7:13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

d. hath…raised [Strong: 1453 * egeiro eg-i'-ro probably akin to the base of 58 (through the idea of collecting one's faculties); to waken (transitively or intransitively), i.e. rouse (literally, from sleep, from sitting or lying, from disease, from death; or figuratively, from obscurity, inactivity, ruins, nonexistence):--awake, lift (up), raise (again, up), rear up, (a-)rise (again, up), stand, take up.]

e. God [Strong: 2316 * theos theh'-os of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with 3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:--X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).]

f. according to [Strong: 2596 * kata kat-ah' a primary particle; (prepositionally) down (in place or time), in varied relations (according to the case (genitive, dative or accusative) with which it is joined):--about, according as (to), after, against, (when they were) X alone, among, and, X apart, (even, like) as (concerning, pertaining to touching), X aside, at, before, beyond, by, to the charge of, (charita-)bly, concerning, + covered, (dai-)ly, down, every, (+ far more) exceeding, X more excellent, for, from ... to, godly, in(-asmuch, divers, every, -to, respect of), ... by, after the manner of, + by any means, beyond (out of) measure, X mightily, more, X natural, of (up-)on (X part), out (of every), over against, (+ your) X own, + particularly, so, through(-oughout, -oughout every), thus, (un-)to(-gether, -ward), X uttermost, where(-by), with. g. his promise [Strong: 1860 * epaggelia ep-ang-el-ee'-ah from 1861; an announcement (for information, assent or pledge; especially a divine assurance of good):--message, promise.]

1). This was one of the promises that the angel Gabriel was referring to when relating to Mary about her miraculous pregnancy.

a). Luke 1:30-33 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

h. to Israel [Strong: 2474 * Israel is-rah-ale' of Hebrew origin (3478); Israel (i.e. Jisrael), the adopted name of Jacob, including his descendants (literally or figuratively):--Israel.]

i. a Savior [Strong: 4990 * soter so-tare' from 4982; a deliverer, i.e. God or Christ:--saviour.]

j. Jesus [Strong: 2424 * Iesous ee-ay-sooce' of Hebrew origin (3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites:--Jesus.]
