Hebrews 6:17

Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

a. NLT: God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind.

b. NIV: Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.

c. YLT: in which God, more abundantly willing to shew to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, did interpose by an oath,

d. Amplified Bible: Accordingly God also, in His desire to show more convincingly and beyond doubt to those who were to inherit the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose and plan, intervened (mediated) with an oath.

e. Worrell Translation: wherein God, more abundantly willing to show the heirs of the promise the immutability of His counsel, interposed with an oath.

1.  “Wherein God, willing more abundantly…”

c. willing [1014 * boulomai] [Strong:  middle voice of a primary verb; to "will," i.e. (reflexively) be willing:--be disposed, minded, intend, list, (be, of own) will (-ing).] [Thayer: to will deliberately, have a purpose, be minded, of willing as an affection, to desire.]

d. more abundantly [4054 * perissoteron] [Strong: neuter of 4055 (as adverb); in a more superabundant way:--more abundantly, a great deal, far more.] [Zodhiates: more abundant, greater.]

2. “…to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel…”

a. to shew [1925 * epideiknume] [Strong: from 1909 and 1166; to exhibit (physically or mentally):--shew.]

b. unto the heirs [2818 * kleronomos] [Strong: from 2819 and the base of 3551 (in its original sense of partitioning, i.e. (reflexively) getting by apportionment); a sharer by lot, i.e. inheritor (literally or figuratively); by implication, a possessor:--heir.] [Zodhiates: An heir, or an inheritance divided by lot.]

c. of promise [1860 * epaggelia] [Strong: from 1861; an announcement (for information, assent or pledge; especially a divine assurance of good):--message, promise.] [Thayer: promise,  the act of promising, a promise given or to be given, a promised good or blessing,]

d. the immutability [276 * ametathetos; a-without; metatithemi-to change position or place, transfer] [Strong: from 1861; an announcement (for information, assent or pledge; especially a divine assurance of good):--message, promise.] [Zodhiates: Immovable, sure, unchangeable. Spoken of God’s constitutional will.] [Websters: not susceptible to any alteration, unalterable.]

3. “…confirmed it by an oath.”

a. confirmed [3315 * mesiteuo] [Strong: from 3316; to interpose (as arbiter), i.e (by implication) to ratify (as surety):--confirm.]

b. by an oath [3727 * horkos] [Strong: from herkos (a fence; perhaps akin to 3725); a limit, i.e. (sacred) restraint (specially, an oath):--oath.]
