Hebrews 6:13

Hebrew 6:13

For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could sware by no greater, he sware by himself.

a. NLT: For example, there was God’s promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in his own name, saying:

b. NIV: When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself,

1. “For when God made promise to Abraham…”

c. made promise [1861 * epaggello] [Strong: from 1909 and the base of 32; to announce upon (reflexively), i.e. (by implication) to engage to do something, to assert something respecting oneself:--profess, (make) promise.]

2. ”…because he could sware by no greater…”

3. “…he sware by himself.”
